Oralift 4 month Review
Do I love it? Oh yes I do. It’s Oralift.
They call it a facelift device and was created by London dentist Nick Nohindra, who was interested in the study of facial pain. Through his research he learned that by addressing the issues that cause pain, they also helps fight some signs of aging.
He noticed that regaining lost facial height resulted in improvement and delay of the signs of facial ageing such a sagging skin, fine lines & wrinkles and uneven skin tone.
Our facial muscles have the unique ability to adapt and learn a new position and this device is actually training our jaw to sit differently. And when our body adapts to a new position, every cell in our body has to adjust, to work at its best. So it doesn’t just impact the facial muscles but also breathing, swallowing and postural muscles. So this could have a bigger impact than just the elongation of our face.
Set up
When you receive the package, it contains 2 mouth pieces – a 3mm and 5mm. These are generic on arrival and must be customized to your own bite.
Step-by-step instructions help you prepare the device for customisation. You will soften the mouthpieces with hot water and mould to your individual bite.
The program
You begin with the 3mm device and wear it every 3rd day in the morning and in the evening. You being with 5 minutes and eventually build to 1 hour, twice a day. After 2 months, you advance to 5mm, again starting on a lower number of minutes.
The aim is to teach your teeth not to touch when your lips are lightly closed. The area between your teeth is referred to as the freeway space. The objective is to increase the freeway space over time.
App
Oralift offers a robust app to help throughout the journey. You download this before starting the onboarding process and use it set up your plan. Then, you use it to track your progress, take occasional photos, record your wear sessions and set up reminder for the next session.
It also contains, extensive wall-throughs, how-tos and resources. They even walk you through how to assess your photos & what to look for.
Photos
Photographs should be taken every few weeks in both active and rest periods. These include facing forward, side to side and even full length (if you have a friend to help). You can use these to track your process over time. And there’s a super cool feature that allows you place 2 photos side by side and move the slider between to see the changes more clearly.
The images can be viewed in color and black & white because the lack of color shows details you mightn’t see otherwise.
After 4 months, I contacted Oralift and asked them to review my photos for me. I’d seen incredible results but I wanted to know they they saw, because they do this every day.
In both colour and black & white images images:
Forward
My face looks taller - almost leaner - and my nose is slightly smaller (don’t know how that happened)
Facing right
The cheeks are higher and my posture has improved.
Facing left
This is where I saw biggest improvements (and was downright excited about)!
The jaw line is smoother
The mouth is lifted
The eyes are lifted
My cheekbones are lifted
The texture of my skin is improved (this is something they pointed out)
Posture is improved, like I’m standing taller
Interesting
What I found so fascinating is the awareness this has given me. I’m so often aware of my freeway space and try to maintain that space throughout the day.
One thing I never asked but figured out along the way….where is our tongue is supposed to be. I did some research and learned that the optimum resting place for our tongue is the roof of our mouth on the roof, but not touching any teeth. So this is another thing I’ve become aware of.
Going forward
I finished my 4-month rest period and am wearing again for 2 months. From this point on, I’ll rest for 4 months, wear for 2. So basically you wear this device twice a year forever. Having said that I have reduced the overall wear time because I just can’t fit it all in. So instead of wearing twice a day, I’m only doing once, in the evening, while watching a bit of tv. Apparently it’s the only time I’m ever silent. Hmm.
