Depology Anti-Wrinkle Micro Dart Patches
Do they work?
I would like to introduce you to a skincare product I recently received. These are from Depology and they’re called Deepcare + Serum-Infused Micro Dart Patches. And they’re really interesting.
They have a few different things going and all of them hit the right buttons for me:
1) Hydration for the eyes
This is an area of concern for me as the laugh lines start to deepen. At 51, I’m doing pretty well in the pro-aging space but this is one of they key areas where my years are starting to catch up with me. Damn you crow’s feet.
2) Patches
I’ve been using silicon patches for a while now and I do find them effective for short amounts of time. They cut off oxygen to the skin, which forces moisture to the surface. It’s said that over time they slowly improve collagen production to smooth those fine lines. This results in plumped, smooth skin. Patches also keep the muscles in place, which reduces movement that contribute to dynamic wrinkles. Yippee.
3) Micro dart technology
This is where things start to get interesting. It’s sort of like micro needling, but better. Instead of using a device that requires meticulous cleaning (rollers must be kept sterile in order prevent infection), this single-use patch contains 1000 micro-darts that puncture then skin, injecting 30 mg of their beautifully formulated serum deep into the skin.
I’d seen some chatter about it and my curiosity was definitely piqued, so I was thrilled when they asked me to try it. But before I agreed, I needed to know….what’s in the serum? Believe you me; I am not injecting anything into my skin unless it’s good for it. So the first thing I did was check out the ingredients.
I was thrilled to see it’s packed full of goodies:
• Hyaluronic Acid, the master of moisture retention
• Argireline, a peptide that fights dynamic wrinkles (think injectables) and stimulates collagen production
• Amino acids promote collagen production and plumps the skin
• Treehalose has water binding properties to hydrate the skin
So far so good! But the next thing niggling in the back of my head….is this going to hurt?
Now, I know that micro-needling is good for our skin, particularly in the anti-aging space. Needles puncture the skin, causing trauma, which in turn increases collagen production to fix said trauma, which in turn plumps everything up. I know it’s crazy, but it’s true (that’s a Christopher Cross song, isn’t it?). Adding skin-loving ingredients deeper into the skin allows more potency and effectiveness.
So even though I know this will help my efforts, I’m a big fat chicken. I even have a micro-needling kit sitting next to me as write this. Unopened. For 4 months.
So I had to overcome my fear and just get on with it. So this is how I use these Micro dart patches:
I do my evening skincare routine as normal though the instructions say to apply to dry skin or over eye serum that’s fully absorbed. You want your face to be pretty dry, so the patches can stick. But I do it early enough that all the good stuff has time to sink in and do its job. For me this around 8pm. I keep them by my bed so it’s the last thing I do before sleepytime.
Inside the pouch the patches are housed within another plastic container that keeps everything sterile and clean.
Carefully remove the patches (personally, I avoid touching the darts completely) and apply to the problem area and then press gently on the pads / dart area. They will dissolve and the serum is activated.
It’s best to leave them for at least 2 hours, but I prefer to wear them overnight to get more bang for my buck.
They’re really thin and comfortable to wear. I find silicon patches sometimes intrusive while sleeping but these are easy peasy. And, they are painless. And frankly it’s on the reason I’ve avoided full-on micro-needling (which is about to change).
As for price, they ain’t cheap.
Set of 8 - $66
Set of 12 - $92
Set of 16 - $116

So the question is….do they work? Oh yes, they do. I don’t really have bags or dark circles under my eyes so I can’t really talk to that but the crows feet were definitely reduced. Hallelujah.
They also sent me the Black Caviar Collagen Under Eye Patches and the Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum which is just super. Super.
Yes these are expensive but I found them effective. I wonder how they’ll work on my marionette lines. Perhaps I should put that to the test!
