Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream Review

If you’re in the luxury skincare game and haven’t heard of Augustinus Bader, I will be mighty, mighty surprised.

Since its launch in 2018, it has been hailed as THE anti-aging cream. Unlimited editors, bloggers and influencers say it’s the one product they can’t live without.

The hype is huge, but is warranted?

From the very beginning, The Rich Cream was getting all the accolades. It received Glamour’s Beauty Award for Best Moisturizer, Marie Claire’s Best Luxury Moisturizer for Ageing Skin, Tatler’s Best Modern Classic, Harper Bazaar’s Best Moisturizer Splurge and even voted the Greatest Skincare of All Time.  Frankly, the list goes on and on and on.

WWD - Greatest skincare of all time

You might be asking…. what’s so great about it? According to the Augustinus Bader website, the key benefits are:

  • Clinically proven to reduce the signs of aging including the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation

  • Deeply hydrates, conditions, and renews for soft, even, restored skin

  • Promotes elasticity, supports skin barrier function, and prevents transepidermal water loss - for skin that’s supple, plump, and smooth.

  • Protects against environmental aggressors

  • TFC8® supports cellular renewal and guides key ingredients to the cells.

  • These are some pretty serious claims. However the true consumer is me says, ‘Yes please, I’ll have some that’!

So how can this company create a product that no one else can? That comes down to Mr. Bader himself.

Augustinus Bader

Professor Bader, a physician and biomedical scientist, is one of the leading experts in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine.  He’s spent decades developing technologies that focus on the body’s ability to heal and regenerate itself. In 2008 he created a wound gel to help burn patients heal severe skin traumas without surgery or skin grafts.

Trigger Factor Complex – 8

Bader created TFC8, which powers all the products within the range. The formulation is patented – therefore difficult to confirm the exact configuration – yet promotes a 40-ingredient combination of amino acids, vitamins, proteins and lipids. Its function is to nourish and protect the skin by supporting its innate potential for renewal.

That INCI list is chock-full of goodness. Sunflower oil, squaline, glycerin, argan oil, avocado and primrose oils, sodium hylauronate, camellia leaf extract and the list goes on and one.

The verdict

Ok, ok I’ll get to the good stuff. I love it. From day one I swear my skin felt different. Better. It’s pure heaven as you apply it and it’s even better over time. My skin felt more hydrated, smoother and tighter. My love for this product is real.

However, I do not love the price tag. A 50ml bottle runs $265. Say what? In its own defense, the product lasted a lot longer than I anticipated. I got about 12 weeks out of it, but only using it at night. If you apply twice a day, then you’re looking at 6 weeks. Ouch.

I CAN say…. this stuff works. If I were Victoria Beckham (who did a collab for her own skincare range using Bader’s TFC8), then I’d literally bathe in this stuff.

But back in the land of reality, this will only ever be an occasional purchase for me. Yes, I’ve repurchased within the last year but it’s not sustainable for mere mortals like me. Oh to dream.
